In a three hour tour you will get an over- view of the most famous sights of Dresden, such as the Residence Castle, the Semper Opera House, the Zwinger and the Church of our Lady. Dresden's former Royal Court Theatre has a turbulent history. The first Opera House at this location was built 1838-41 by the architect Gottfried Semper and became famous as one of the most beautiful theatres in Europe. Tuesday, August 31, 2010 Including: Guide, Transfer by Motor Coach, Ticket for Porcelain Factory, City walk Meissen, Visit at the Cathedral A trip by coach to the 1000 year old charming town of Meissen, includes a narrated visit of the well-known Meissen Porcelain factory built in the 18th century. In the factory not only the production process of the”White Gold” will be shown, but you will also see the impressive collection of exceptional porcelain masterpieces. There will be an opportunity to make purchases at the factory shop. A guided tour through the historical city will bring you to the late gothic Albrechtsburg Castle in Meissen and to the Cathedral on the citadel hill of Meissen, typical of sacred buildings of the Mid-Gothic age, although its steeples are from the beginning of this century. On our way back to Dresden we will stop at the hunting lodge Moritzburg. The Castle is situated on a small island in a lake. It was originally built as a hunting lodge for the duke of Saxony in 1546 but was renovated in the baroque style in 1730. Lunch will be on everyones own expenses (60 minute Lunch break in Meissen). Much of this tour is in the pedestrian area of the old city and requires the ability to climb steep slopes and steps.
