Wednesday, September 01, 2010  |  02:00 p.m. - 05:00 p.m.

At the Institut für Leichtbau und Kunststofftechnik (ILK) of the Technische Universität Dresden, widespread research is performed in the field of load-adapted lightweight structures. For this, a comprehensive approach is pursued with respect to both materials and products throughout the total engineering chain – material, design, simulation, manufacturing, component, quality assurance, costs. Beyond this, the ILK aims at developing design rules and optimisation criteria for lightweight components, especially for high-performance purposes. Here, a special focus is set on multi-material design. Another major research area of the ILK is the development of innovative material concepts with high lightweight potential (e. g. textile-reinforced composites, hybrid composites, metal matrix composites).

With its modern and comprehensive facilities the laboratory of civil engineering at the TU Dresden is specialized to destructive loading tests on a variety of materials of construction engineering, but also on non-destructive examinations. High priority has the testing on textile reinforced concrete. In addition, high-strength concretes of different compositions are studied for many years in a triaxial testing machine with a capability of 5000 kN compression or 500 kN tension in every load axis. Another focus is the exploration of the composite of concrete and reinforcement under static and under fatigue loading. Currently, a vertical 10-MN press for large-scale trials will be built.
